Prefinished Cabinet Doors
What are Unfinished and Prefinished Cabinet Doors?
Unfinished paint-grade cabinet doors are fully sanded in our factory before being shipped to you. Once you receive them, there is no prep work necessary before you start painting the doors in any color you choose.
Another option is our prefinished white cabinet doors. These doors are sanded then painted with High Reflective Sherwin-Williams conversion varnish. Choose from a variety of different colors including White, Gray, and Salty Dog Blue. As soon as the doors arrive, they are ready to hang on your existing cabinets.
Here are the steps to ordering these doors either Unfinished or Prefinished:
- Click a door picture below to open the Product Page for that door style.
- Scroll down to the "Order Box".
- Select "Paint-Grade" from the "Select Wood Specie" menu.
- After selecting Paint-Grade, the "Paint-Grade Options" menu will display the color choices, or "Fully Sanded & Paint-Ready" for those wishing to paint their own doors.
- Selecting "High Reflective White" will color the sample door picture and indicate your choice for White Kitchen Cabinet Doors.
- Fill-in the quantity, width and height and the price for that door will be shown.

Here are a few facts (and four videos) involving Paint-Grade Cabinet Doors and Prefinished Cabinet Doors that will help inform your decisions.
First, the type of wood to be painted has a huge influence on appearance, as some woods paint well and some are just awful.
For instance, Oak has a very open grain and even when sanded to a very-fine finish, the painted surface will resemble a painted Orange peel.
While Oak is a great candidate for stains or clear lacquers, it is seldom painted.
Soft Maple or Poplar, which we use in our Paint-Grade doors, will produce a much smoother finish.
Our paint-grade doors have a Frame of Soft Maple or Poplar, and a panel of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF).
This combination is resistant to dimensional changes with fluctuations in humidity and provides an exceptional base for our Sherwin-Williams Conversion Varnishes.
A conversion varnish is a two-part, post-catalyzed lacquer, which means a hardener is mixed with this product for the application.
Conversion Varnish is a modern, high-tech product, which has proven to produce a smooth, hard, and durable finish on kitchen cabinet doors.
Why Choose an Unfinished Door or a Prefinished White Door?Having an updated kitchen is exciting, but doing the updates is not. Sanding a whole set of cabinet doors takes time, skill, and specialized equipment. Choosing unfinished cabinet doors eliminates the sanding step entirely, saving you time, money, and hassle in the process.
The same is true when you choose prefinished cabinet doors. Your project moves a lot faster when the doors arrive pre-painted. Plus, you know the paint has been applied perfectly. Working with doors that come ready-to-hang (or just ready-to-finish) makes upgrading cabinetry surprisingly quick, easy, and inexpensive.
Will This Option Fit Your Kitchen?Unfinished doors can be painted any color you like. This is actually the most versatile option available because it can adapt to whatever design you dream up. Paint the doors bright and bold or soft and subtle - since they come completely ready to cover you can get started immediately.
The sizes and styles available are just as versatile. Each door is cut to order, so it fits perfectly onto existing cabinets. You do not have to worry about the design you have holding back the design you want. Both unfinished and prefinished kitchen cabinet doors also come in a range of styles from classic to contemporary. Consider this option for any kitchen remodel project.

We ordered replacement doors for our 60-year-old home and were very pleased with the product. The milling was of the highest quality. The joinery was very well done, and the wood selection was obviously done by a professional who cares what the finished product looks like. It is one thing to assemble a project with technical skill, and another thing entirely to accomplish the assembly with an eye toward bringing the best out of the wood being used. Both aspects were accomplished, and at a very high level! The dimensions were absolutely perfect. Each door was correctly dimensioned to within less than 1/16 of an inch. It was very pleasing to see this attention to detail, especially since I took the time to measure my cabinets twice, making sure I had done my part. I had never worked with white birch before, and when I saw the issues with staining the wood (soft grain with blotchy absorption of the stain) I was a bit worried. I had no problems at all because the wood was of a higher quality white birch that had been properly handled at the mill and sanded to a stain-ready finish. A good sanding sealer was applied, and then the stain. The results were EXCELLENT! All-in-all, we received a great product, great advice and excellent customer service from CabinetDoors.com. We would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for cabinet doors. Nice job, everyone! Michael R.
The doors arrived today and fit perfectly. Thank you very much. I will be ordering the remaining 18 doors and 6 drawer fronts in the next couple of months. Walter W.
