Measure for Lazy Susan Cabinet Doors

Lazy Susan cabinets are a classic kitchen cabinet construction that offers added potential for organizing your kitchen, allowing you to reach the hidden spaces in your cabinets and maximize your cabinet storage. The lazy Susan construction features wood, polymer, or wire shelves along a rotating base inside your cabinets.

Whether you are building your kitchen with new lazy Susan cabinet doors or planning for a lazy Susan door replacement, knowing how to measure for this unique cabinet layout will make the installation process a breeze.

How To Measure for Lazy Susan Cabinet Doors

When installing a lazy Susan for a corner cabinet, you’ll need to follow a few steps to measure properly and determine the ideal lazy Susan cabinet dimensions. Start by gathering a tape measure, pencil, and a piece of paper so you can record your measurements.

1. Measure the Cabinet Openings

If you have cabinet doors on the corner cabinets already, step number one is removing them so you can accurately measure the door opening. To fit the corner cabinet with the doors, you’ll need to measure the cabinet openings for each side to the nearest 1/16th of an inch.

  • Start by measuring the width of the opening, starting from the center of one edge of the cabinet frame to the center where the doors would meet.
  • Also, measure the width along the edge of the cabinet frame to ensure the numbers match up.
  • Mark down the measurements for each door opening.
  • Then, measure the height of each opening from the bottom center of the cabinet frame to the top center of the frame.
  • Again, measure the height along the edge of the door frame as well to double-check. If there is any variability, then consider the height of your other kitchen cabinet doors.
  • Note the measurements for each.

2. Do the Math

After recording the measurements, figuring out your lazy Susan cabinet dimensions will take a little bit of math. Because you will need to put two doors up against each other, you will have to be careful about the measurements so they do not knock against each other after installation. Particularly, you’ll have to consider the thickness of both doors.

After measuring the opening of the lazy Susan door, add 1” to the height and 1/2” to the width. Then, subtract the thickness of each door to ensure they don’t interfere with each other. So, your calculations will look like this:

  • Width = Width of the opening + 1/2” – The thickness of the door
  • Height = Height of the opening + 1”

3. Order Your Doors

With all the lazy Susan cabinet dimensions you need, you can now focus on ordering your doors and entering the measurements. Remember you’ll need to order a left and a right door to fit your corner cabinet with the doors. This is the most fun part of the process, as you get to choose your preferred style, wood type, and finish for the door.

When you order from CabinetDoors.com, you can choose from dozens of styles as well as finish options. We make it easy to match the design of your home, offering both pre-painted cabinet doors and paint-grade options to paint yourself upon delivery.

4. Bore Your Lazy Susan Cabinet Hinges

Finally, after you select your ideal doors, you need to have them properly prepared for the hinge boring. Since you will be ordering two doors, keep in mind that only one of them will need hinge boring. When ordering, be sure to mark “No” in the Boring & Hinge Options box. How To Install Lazy Susan Doors

Once you receive your doors, you are ready to install them on your corner cabinets. There are four common ways to install lazy Susan cabinet doors:

  • Butt Joint – The butt joint construction uses a lazy Susan door with a larger stile on one side and a regular cabinet door with a square edge on the other side.
  • Hinge Joint – This layout uses two standard doors with a square edge on one stile for a 1/2” overlay.
  • Mitered Joint – The mitered joint uses two lazy Susan doors with three-inch stiles on the inside part of each door. The doors connect in the middle at a mitered joint. The measurements are the same for the other two doors but may change if you use a hinge other than a 1/2” overlay hinge.
  • Inset – The inset door style attaches to the shelf and spins inside the cabinet when opened. This door is the only one that requires a different calculation for measurement. To ensure full clearance for the doors, subtract 15/16” from the width and 1/4” from the height.
